How Much Exercise Does an English Springer Spaniel Puppy Need?
A Springer puppy needs physical activity and mental stimulation every day, but it should not follow an adult exercise target. The amount and intensity must suit the puppy’s age and development, with play and short training included alongside physical exercise.
Why is the adult exercise figure the wrong puppy target?
The Royal Kennel Club lists more than two hours of daily exercise for an adult English Springer Spaniel. That figure describes the adult breed profile. Puppy guidance specifically warns against overworking growing bones, so it should not be converted into a fixed puppy quota.
What can count as useful puppy activity?
Use a mixture of age-appropriate movement, play, short training, and mental stimulation. Introduce new places, people, and animals at the puppy’s pace. These activities build a broader daily routine without treating every need as a longer or harder walk.
Where do recall and independence fit?
Keep the puppy on leash until recall is reliable, and practise calm time without constant human interaction. A useful routine develops both safe outdoor control and the ability to settle between activities.
